Plagiarism Screening

JAMSOR is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record and preventing plagiarism in all its forms. All submitted manuscripts undergo rigorous plagiarism screening before entering the peer review process and again before final publication.

Screening Tools

JAMSOR utilizes industry-standard plagiarism detection software, including:

  • Turnitin / iThenticate: Comprehensive text similarity checking against published literature and web sources.
  • Crossref Similarity Check: Powered by iThenticate, provides access to a vast database of scholarly content.
  • Google Scholar: Additional verification for uncatalogued sources.

Screening Timeline

Plagiarism screening is performed at two key stages:

  • Upon Submission: All manuscripts are screened within 2–3 days of submission.
  • Before Publication: Accepted manuscripts are re-screened after revisions to ensure compliance.

Similarity Threshold

JAMSOR maintains the following guidelines for similarity reports:

  • Below 15%: Generally acceptable with proper citation.
  • 15–25%: Reviewed case-by-case; authors may be asked to revise and reduce similarity.
  • Above 25%: Manuscript may be rejected or returned with specific instructions for extensive revision.

These thresholds are guidelines; editorial judgment considers the context of similarities, including methods sections, standard terminology, and properly attributed quotations.

Types of Plagiarism Detected

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim without attribution.
  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting source material without proper citation.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing one's own previously published work without disclosure.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining text from multiple sources without attribution.
  • Idea Plagiarism: Presenting another's concepts as original work.
  • Accidental Plagiarism: Unintentional failure to cite sources properly.

Consequences of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected, the following actions may be taken depending on severity:

  • During Review: Rejection of the manuscript and notification to the corresponding author.
  • After Publication: Retraction of the published article and notification to the author's institution.
  • Severe Cases: Banning the author from submitting to JAMSOR for a specified period.

Author Resources
